The characters made famous in the Ninja Baseball Bat Man video game are coming out of retirement and are back in a new comic book adventure called ..........NINJA BASEBALL SPIRITS!
This is the official comic reboot of Irem's 1993 arcade beat 'em up game, Ninja Baseball Bat Man. Created with BPM artist Steve Gregson and the game's creator, Drew Maniscalco, Ninja Baseball Spirits is an action packed five-part comic series.
It all starts with Ninja Baseball Spirits #1, a 30-page comic written by Dave Cook, with art from Steve Gregson, colours by Lou Ashworth and letters by Rob Jones.
When six golden relics are stolen from beneath the All-Star baseball stadium, Champion's Field, the spirit of baseball begins to crumble. The stands are empty, the players have lost their vibe and the entire league is close to going bankrupt!
The Commissioner of Baseball summons the four greatest All-Stars - Jose, Beanball, Ryno and Straw - and gives them special championship rings that transforms them into the Ninja Baseball Spirits. With their newfound ninja abilities, our four heroes must travel America in their high-tech tour bus, The Alabaster and find the stolen relics.
In each electrifying issue, the ninjas must fight against a rival sports team to win back a relic, including Canada's hockey barbarians and their leader, Wayne Deathslap, Chicago's Basketbrawlers and their captain, Three Point Mike, a cosmic pro-wrestling tag team and more.
Ninja Baseball Spirits is a mash up of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Streets of Rage and of course, sports!
Ninja Baseball Spirits is a comic book adaptation of Ninja Baseball Bat Man, a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up arcade game released in October, 1993 by Japanese developer Irem, which created such hit games as R-Type, Undercover Cops and Kung-Fu Master.
The game was overlooked at launch, selling only 1042 arcade boards worldwide. But like an underdog rising up the ranks of baseball, it became a cult classic over the years thanks to the arcade emulation scene and is now a popular game among side-scrolling beat 'em up enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The arcade game was created by Irem's Drew Maniscalco and follows four baseball ninjas who must tour across America to reclaim some stolen golden relics that keep the sport of baseball alive. It's a hard-hitting, bizarre and hilarious brawler that plays a lot like Streets of Rage and the Ninja Turtles arcade game.
With Drew Maniscalco's blessing, UK comic duo Team Beats has been given permission to reboot the original Ninja Baseball Bat Man story in a five-part comic series called Ninja Baseball Spirits - and it's ALL written already
Team Beats is the award-winning comic writer Dave Cook (Killtopia, BPM: Beatdowns Per Minute) and Steve Gregson (BPM: Beatdowns Per Minute, B*stard Galaxia), along with colourist Lou Ashworth and letterer Rob Jones. Dave is also the author of Go Straight: The Ultimate Guide to Side-Scrolling Beat 'Em Ups from publisher Bitmap Books, which features a detailed look at Ninja Baseball Bat Man.
The plot follows the arcade game's four original heroes - Jose, Beanball, Ryno and Straw - as they fight to save the spirit of baseball. Six golden relics have been stolen from an ancient vault under Champions Field, the home stadium of the Baseball All-Stars. The thieves are none other than the Hockey Barbarians from Canada, working on behalf of their mysterious and powerful leader...
Without the golden relics, the spirit of baseball weakens. People start losing interest in the game, the stadiums are empty and teams across America are close to going bankrupt and fading away forever.
In a last desperate attempt to save the sport, the Commissioner of Baseball summons baseball's four greatest players and gives them special championship rings, which transform them into highly-skilled ninja warriors. With their new found butt-kicking power, the ninjas can fight to reclaim the relics from the bad dudes who stole them.
Together with the Atomic Cheer Squad, the ninjas jump into their high-tech tour bus, The Alabaster, and blast off across America to retrieve the stolen relics.
Unknown to our heroes, the relics have been stolen by the All-Stars of other popular sports - American Football, Pro Wrestling, Ice Hockey, Basketball and more - who all want to see baseball destroyed for their own mysterious, evil goals.
Each issue sees our heroes battling a different All-Star team, getting into tricky situations, using high-flying special moves, unleashing super-charged powers and learning how to use teamwork to become the ultimate fighting sports team.
But what is the other teams’ master plan? Who are they working for? Why do they want to see baseball destroyed? Can our ninjas form a solid team and fight back to batter up another day?
Captain Jose: He's the leader of the Ninja Baseball Spirits and when it comes to fighting, he's the team's all-rounder. Years ago, Jose choked badly during a championship final match and cost his team the league. This crushing defeat still haunts him to this day, so he feels unconfident in leading the ninjas into battle. This causes him to clash with Beanball, who always gives him a hard time for
Beanball Roger: Big, brash and a bit of a bully, Beanball comes from a long family history of pro-wrestlers. His family shunned him after he turned his back on wrestling to become a baseball player, which is why he's a bit of a dick to Jose and the others. Deep down he has a heart of gold and must learn to be a team player if the ninjas hope to save baseball from destruction. He also loves snacks
Stick Straw: He's the most tactical player in the history of baseball and is a technical genius on the field. His wrist computer can analyse any situation or battle to predict the best outcome. Similar to real-life legend Michael Jordan, Straw started out as a basketball player, but decide to switch sports and play baseball - much to the disgust of his old teammate Three Point Mike. The spectre o
Twinbats Ryno: He's a Canadian baseball star from Toronto and his dad runs a famous pizza joint, known across the world for its Ryno-Roni Deluxe pizza. Ryno learns that his dad is being bullied by one of the evil sports teams, so the ninjas hop into their tour bus and head over the border to help him - which unfolds into a greater plot later in our series. Ryno might be short, but he's also fun-l
Lizzie: Our new original character is Lizzie, captain of the Atomic Cheer Squad. Lizzie and her cheerleaders offer support to the ninjas as they fight the rival sports teams. Armed with a Hyper T-Shirt cannon, Lizzie is determined, a skilled fighter and a born leader. She coaches Jose to understand his anxiety over his big league loss and to help him become a strong captain to the rest of his cre

Hi, I'm Dave Cook. I'm the author of award-winning cyberpunk comic series Killtopia, as well as BPM: Beatdowns Per Minute, Ninja Baseball Spirits, Bust and more.
I've been crowdfunding comics since 2014, and altogether my campaigns have raised over £150,000. I also wrote a free comic crowdfunding guidebook to help others plan, market, run and fulfil their own campaigns.
My work's even won a few awards. Killtopia in particular has won three Scottish Independent Comic Book Awards, and a Creative Edinburgh Award.
Aside from comics, I also write video game history books, including Go Straight: The Ultimate Guide to Side-Scrolling Beat 'em Ups, which is published by Bitmap Books.
Lastly, I write regular features for quarterly gaming journal Lock-On, and I've written for a few video games, such as Unbound: Worlds Apart, Loot River and Final Fright.
Killtopia is my award-winning cyberpunk comic series. It's an ever-expanding universe that spans five core books, short-story anthologies, sequels and spin-offs.
Both a commercial and critical hit, the Killtopia books have raised over £120,000 on Kickstarter, and are published and distributed via Scotland's BHP Comics.
At over 450 pages, Go Straight takes a deep dive into familiar beat-’em-up legends like Double Dragon, Golden Axe, Final Fight and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as delving into the more obscure brawlers you just have to try, like Denjin Makai, Shadow Force and Ninja Baseball Bat Man.
Be the first to hear about new arrivals, popular comics.
